DC United have completed the signing of free agent goalkeeper Tyler Miller, the club announced Wednesday.

Miller joins the Black and Red on a two-year deal until the end of the 2024 MLS season.

“We are getting a proven MLS goalkeeper who has seven years of experience in this league,” DC United president of soccer operations Dave Kasper said in a club press release.

“He’s a great shot-stopper and leader who also has the ability to play with his feet out of the back. We’re excited to add Tyler to our roster ahead of 2023 and add an important piece to our goalkeeper core.”

DC United become Miller’s fourth MLS club, having previously spent three years with the Seattle Sounders and winning the Supporters’ Shield with LAFC before most recently playing 43 games in three seasons with Minnesota United.

The majority of those appearances for the Loons came in the 2021 season before Miller lost his place in the starting XI to Canada international Dayne St. Clair.

Miller is DC United’s fourth move this off-season as Wayne Rooney rebuilds a roster that finished bottom of the overall standings in 2022, with fellow goalkeeper Luis Zamudio joining from USL Championship affiliate Loudoun United, Pedro Santos arriving as a free agent, and Derrick Williams signed in a trade with the LA Galaxy.
