France forward Olivier Giroud has sung the praises of Kylian Mbappe, claiming he’s the best player he’s ever shared the pitch with.
Mbappe and Giroud have both been key for France at the 2022 World Cup thus far, linking up throughout the tournament and weighing in with goals to fire them to a quarter-final tie with England.
23-year-old Mbappe scored a brace in a 3-1 win over Poland in the last 16 to set up the clash, taking him to nine World Cup goals in total – level with Lionel Messi as things stand. Giroud, meanwhile, weighed in with a strike of his own that made him France’s all-time male top scorer.
But despite the achievement, he was more keen to wax lyrical about Mbappe in a press conference: “Kylian is basically one of the best players I’ve played with.

“He is amazing and is still young which is scary as he can still improve,” he added: “He is very efficient and, from the beginning of the competition, he’s been crucial for us – very decisive, very competitive.
“He’s obviously the best striker I’ve played with in all of the teams I’ve played in.”
The 36-year-old continued, firing out a warning to potential opponents: “We’ve not seen the best of him, I hope it’s going to come soon and he will beat all the records. I know that and you know it as well.”
Mbappe bagged in the 2018 final as France lifted the World Cup and, considering he has already caught up with Lionel Messi for goals scored at the tournament, the prospect of him smashing Giroud’s all-time scoring record of 52 goals feels more a case of when rather than if.
Les Bleus will face off against Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions on December 10.
