It is well known by now that comedy legend Will Ferrell is a big soccer fan. The actor is a minority owner of the MLS champions LAFC, and is regularly seen chanting with its fans in the stands. He was also the USMNT’s biggest hype man in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup.
While Ferrell isn’t in Qatar this time around, he’s currently in England promoting his new holiday movie Spirited. In his promotional rounds, he stopped by radio station Capital and was sure to talk about the all-important clash with England on Friday (2:00pm EST).
When asked by the host what he thought the outcome would be, Will Ferrell was beaming with confidence. “It’s going to be a slaughter”, he said. Accompanied by his co-star Octavia Spencer, he predicted a 3-0 result in favor of Gregg Berhalter’s men.
The host then played a videoclip dedicated to Ferrell from Arsenal and England’s starting goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, and that’s when the fun began.
How Aaron Ramsdale first dissed Will Ferrell
This was the message from the GK: “Hi Will, it’s Aaron Ramsdale. You’re a great actor and a hero of mine, I love watching your films. But, when we play your nation on Friday, you’ll be the worst actor in the world. Elf will be on the shelf and it will be a little less Anchorman and more wanker man. Take care, pal.”
Will Ferrell’s hilarious rebuttal
The Stepbrothers star was taken aback by Ramsdale‘s pun-riddled provocation, but he responded swiftly with his usual comedic genius: “Mr Aaron Ramsdale, you don’t realise I know where you live, and I’m delivering a bag of sh*t to your doorstep. I’m going to light it on fire, and you’re going to have to stomp it out.”
Ferrell continued his threats towards the Three Lions while everyone on the Capital Breakfast program laughed away: “They’re not going to sleep at night… because they’re insomniacs.”
