Anitta Matches Taylor Swift And Blackpink’s Lisa With Her New Hit On Billboard’s Social Chart – Forbes

Just two tunes debut on this week’s Hot Trending Songs chart, Billboard’s ranking of the tracks that rack up the most mentions and which are discussed by the greatest number of people on Twitter. The loftiest of the pair comes from Brazilian singer-songwriter Anitta, who has actually appeared on the list before. Her latest hit doesn’t just show that she’s a trending topic, but that she can compete with some of the most successful women in the global music industry, at least when looking at social media.

Anitta’s new single “Boys Don’t Cry” opens at No. 11, missing out on becoming her first top 10 smash on the Hot Trending Songs chart by one space. Now that she’s sent a pair of tracks to the social-only tally, Anitta matches with both Taylor Swift and Lisa of the band Blackpink as the only solo female musicians to send more than one cut to the roster.

“Boys Don’t Cry” instantly becomes Anitta’s highest-charting hit so far on the Hot Trending Songs ranking. Her previous and only other tune that’s appeared on the list, “Faking Love” with rapper Saweetie, lifted as high as No. 13 several weeks ago.

Lisa proved her immense popularity when Billboard first introduced the Hot Trending Songs chart, as she appeared on the inaugural list with both of her solo smashes. “Money” stopped one rung shy of running the show, while “Lalisa” peaked at No. 3. Both tracks stand out as not only some of the highest-charting, but also the sturdiest so far, as they are still present on the tally this week.

Swift is the only other solo female musician to hit the Hot Trending Songs chart several times, which she managed with tracks featured on her recent album Red (Taylor’s Version). Her global hit single “All Too Well” stands as her only top 10 on the socially-driven list, as it peaked at No. 9. The title track once surged to No. 14.

Several other solo female artists who hail from different nations and who are known for producing very different kinds of music have also placed hits on the Hot Trending Songs chart, but just one, at least so far. Adele, Halsey, Seulgi, IU, Taeyeon, Tems, Yena, Bibi and the aforementioned Saweetie have all appeared on the list with a single tune.
